Safe Drinking Water Act Petition Webinar

IEC and coalition partners submitted a petition to the EPA on April 16, 2024, urging the EPA to exercise its emergency powers to address groundwater contamination in Iowa’s Driftless region. The region has an extensive and well-documented history of nitrate contamination in its underground sources of drinking water, which continues to put the health of residents at risk.

IEC Water Program Director Alicia Vasto and Staff Attorney Michael Schmidt hosted this free webinar on May 1 to share background about the rulemaking process that led to creating this petition, what the petition calls for, and what we expect from the EPA moving forward.
